Notes:
Issac's Grandfather was a general in the war of 1812 and his Uncle was a captain in the war of 1812.

Issac's 1/2 Brother Cornelius was in the American civil war and died as a result of injuries sustained there.

Issac was naturalized as a young man and "was a good citizen".

Issac went to Onawa, Iowa, and got the charter for the Mason Lodge of Smithland Iowa. His lodge was called the "Amuckables". Louise Van Valkinburgh sent his lodge papers to a Mr. J.D. Grove of "Grove and Grove Co.", Merchants, an uncle and a nephew at Chewelah, WA. The elder Mr. Grove died, Louise wrote for the return of the papers, but never got an answer.

(internet research on 18 Aug. 2000 finds a lodge in Smithland, Iowa named the Amicables, #289)

"Louise Bower was the only child of a German father, Joseph Bower who was born May 4, 1813 at Baden Germany. Her mother, Mary Murie was born in Perth, Scotland, in 1814. Joseph and Mary Bower married 1845.

Dave and John Murie, Mary's brothers had ranches in Waukegan. Dave Murie sold his property to the railroad and a depot was was put there and was called Russel Station.

Joseph Bowers had a sister, Tearesa, who married a Mr. Burkett. After Burkett died she married a man named McCall. Tereasa had a daughter named Mary Burkett.

Helen Louise E. Bowers was born in Lake County, Illinois Dec. 3, 1852. Moved with her parents to Smithland, Woodbury County, Iowa in 1854 by wagon train. She was married to Isaac Van Valkinburgh in 1869 at age 16 years. To them was born 13 children:
