From the notes compiled by Mrs J.H. Snyder (Gladys Marie Castle, granddaughter of Helen Louise Elizabeth Bower) and Lucy Vaught (Lucy Louise Jones, also Helen Bower's granddaughter) and Laura Brown (Laura Van Valkinburgh, daughter of Helen Bower).

Joseph Bower b. 4 May 1813, Baden-Baden, Germany, died 15 January, 1892 in Smithland, Iowa, and buried there with wife Mary (Murrie) Bower. Married in New York 1830's.
He came to the U.S. with father Benedict and Mother Elizabeth (Kell) Bower in 1833, along with brother Thomas, and sisters Teresa, Helen and Genevieve.

She and Joseph married late in life and had one child, a daughter, born in Waukegan, Illinois. A census of 1856 of Little Sioux Township, Woodbury County, Smithland, Iowa shows Helen Louise Elizabeth Bower to be of age 3 years.

Notes from Mrs J.H. Snyder in 1978 has a paragraph on Joseph and Mary that lists Marriage date as 1830's, New York.

Since he immigrated in 1833 it would have to have been at least after that date, but before 1852 when Helen was born.
