Notes:
email from Jim Moser June 1, 2006

"...Our son Rob was killed over memorial weekend. They were out camping and went looking for wood up an old road and Rob got too close to the edge and his truck rolled down a 200 foot bank. Rob was dead when they found them but Heather somehow survived, no one knows why. She is in the hospital here with a broken back and both arms, busted ribs punctured lung. She is doing very well tho for all her hurts. She is a strong willed girl and we are all optimistic..."

Wife transported by Medstar to Kootenai Medical Center
MAGEE RANGER STATION -- A Coeur d'Alene man died Sunday when his pickup truck left the road and rolled 150 feet down a steep bank near Magee Ranger Station.

Robert Darrell Moser, 26, died in the accident at about 4:30 p.m.

His wife, Heather, was seriously injured and transported by Medstar to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene.
She had undergone surgery and was listed in serious condition Monday afternoon, Shoshone County Sheriff Chuck Reynalds said.

The crash is under investigation, but Reynalds said inattentive driving and alcohol are believed to have played a part in the accident.

The Mosers were camping with friends near Magee Ranger Station, which is about 15 miles up the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River, and 9 miles past the paved road on a dirt road to Magee, Reynalds said.

When Moser's truck left the U.S. Forest Service Road 422, it rolled down an almost vertical incline to the bottom of a valley near the creek.

"It was very, very steep," Reynalds said.

The mountain road they were driving on curves along the side of a mountain around a valley with a large, open field surrounding the creek, Reynalds said. Medstar landed in the valley to transport Heather for medical attention.

Prichard QRU, Kellogg Ambulance, U.S. Forest Service, Idaho Fish & Game and the Shoshone County Sheriff's Department responded to the location. The scene was cleared by 9 p.m.

"It's just a shame," Reynalds said. "We've had a very busy weekend. So far that's our only death."

Despite the busy holiday weekend and many camping up the North Fork, there were only four arrests, one DUI and many citations, Reynalds said.

"I was surprised with the number of people (camping) with the weather conditions," he said.
