William Butler Ogden became co-founder and Mayor of Chicago in 1837, he was the founder and president of CNW RR and the first president of the Union Pacific RR.
When William was 16, his father had an incapacitiating stroke. William then took over his father's lumber and developement business. He became a New York State legislator before moving on to Chicago. A 35 mile Ogden Avenue (Chicago-Napiervile) was named after him.
